We are an eco friendly car wash franchised business with over 20 sites around South Africa. We currently have a site at the Pavillion Mall in KZN. Dear Jane,
ReplyDeleteAlthough I can see that you are making an attempt, you are not complying with the anti-smoking legislation of the Republic of South Africa. It is almost impossible for non-smokers to get a safe passage from the SPAR towards your other shops. The outside smoking areas of the Restaurants are not in term of the law. I do suggest that you get a copy of the law, which is in the process of changing once again, to ascertain what the requirements are and then to make a concerted effort to enforce this law. I have already written to other shopping centers in this town about issues at their shopping centre. As a patron, it is really not a preferred experience having to address smokers all the time when I come to do shopping at your centre. I shop their all of the time. I am a regular customer.
I quote from a recent newspaper article:
""This legislation works so well, because people want it to work," National Council Against Smoking's Peter Ucko said. One controversial aspect is that the person in control of a public place is responsible for enforcing the smoking ban.
At a restaurant, the manager or owner should ensure the law is enforced. At a cricket match, the managers or organizers of the event would have to train security and other staff to ensure people only smoke in designated areas.
If the law is not enforced, any member of the public can lay a complaint by contacting the municipal health department, or open a docket at the police station." - Tuesday 16th April, 2013 on The Herald Eastern Cape
It is my intention to actually lay a charge at a reliable entity should I notice that you have not taken my kind request to heart. There is a very good reason why we have this law and as a majority group of about 77% of the population that are non-smokers, it is very much democratic as well.
I wish you all of the best in your endeavours to rectify this situation.
Kind Regards
Chris Kleynhans
Be aware people. Today at 12.50pm someone broke my petrol cap off my vehicle and tried to steal petrol in the parking lot in open air. I was parked close to the Clicks and Spar Entrance. There is no car watch system or security in the parking lots.
